Shelford 5ths 14 : 60 Sawston 1st/2nd (written by Richard Craddock)

They say the best days of your life you can never remember - the 60's , being at Live Aid, the day you met your future wife - well , the 60's were my childhood and they were great, all Watch with Mother and the Tufty club, needing a toilet break for 6 hours and not being able to go, and seeing her in Great Chesterford in a white chunky knit jumper and wax jacket (nothing else just .....)

Well yesterday's game was like that, I had to ask Lee Coney, who'd scored the other try in the club house (it was him who'd crashed over from '20 yards'). The try I'd remembered was by one of the many Tom's in the team (who I'd sadly mixed up names with and sent him to Newmarket!)

The game was going to be a tough one as this was the only Sawston team out but we'd faced adversity before and like the saying goes 'if you can treat it  in the same way as victory ...' I paraphrase a little  .
New faces and late arrivals meant a reshuffle in the line up but we cracked on with the task in hand.
The scoring was fairly rapid by Sawston who clearly were out to beat their neighbours (if you take out the 5 or 6 tries scored by their star player then the score doesn't look half as bad).

We were, in phases ,playing good rugby but our tackling let us down and it wasn't until we held onto the ball that we realised that we could live with the opposition. We played some lovely rugby ,in particular with the aforementioned try by Lee which came from a perfect drive / rolling maul by the forwards.
Names to mention this week are Mano who has grown in confidence as he is turning into a great player -oops shouldn't have said that. Sanjay/George don't read that last bit.

Tim the NuMan this week who managed to tackle everyone of the Sawston tream during one phase of the game and G.I Joe 'Pat' who was great at the lineout and ran beautifully with the ball (once he'd learnt not to do it one handedly)

Everyone deserves a thank you, in particular James W (the sight of him walking out the showers will stay with me forever) Jules (his pants are great) and Kai who kept the game going between forwards and backs. All the lads who got  a half are appreciated and will get longer next time.
Got to go, my toast has just popped up (not a euphemism) See you next week and onward and upward.
