Old Albanians 47 Shelford 14 On a blustery day Shelford travelled to fifth placed Old Albanians who hold a formidable home record. The home side were soon on the front foot and ran in seven tries to Shelford's two. With the wind behind them OA's swiftly made inroads deep into the Shelford half but initially the visitors defence held firm. However Shelford lost possession deep in the Albanian half and the hosts made their way up field for Ferenheim to score, converted by Gregg. Despite some good phases Shelford were unable to create any chances and as the first half drew to a close Albanians added to their score with two further tries from Lombaard and Marchon, both converted by Gregg. The score at half time was 21 0 to the home side but with the wind behind them in the second half Shelford had cause for some optimism. However Old Albanians used their running game to great effect and soon had Shelford on the back foot. Three quick converted tries from the hosts saw them race into a 42 0 lead. The visitors continued to work hard and were rewarded with a try from full back Jay Williams with Harry Owens adding the extras. An interception try soon followed with good hands from debutant centre Peceli Nacamavuto. However Albanians had the last word and finished off a fine display with a try in the last play of the game. James Shanahan's side fully deserved their win and their style of play reflected rugby at it's best. |
