Shelford 5ths 0 : 24  Royston II (written by Richard Craddock)

With reference to Dr Seuss and 'The Cat in the Hat'

I sat there with t'wife
We sat there ,we two
And I said 'How I wish
I had something to do'

Too poor to go shopping
And too old to play f'ball
So I sat in the house
And I texted you all

So all we could do was to
Play !
   Play !
      Play !
         Play !
And we did like to say
That it's our Saturday

And then Richard said play
How we wait for this day
To play a game
Of two halves
In our own little way

I looked !
Then I saw that the fixture list was set up
And I called all you lads
If we could win a small cup

I knew it's a long shot
And the teams always changing
But we can have
Lots of fun that is really engaging

Team One and Team Two
We are not , we are sure
Team Three and Team Four
We cannot give anymore

Shall I tell you about
Today's game as it past
Through my head all our games
Seem to differ from t'last

Now to the game, we had the usual personnel changes and thank you to young Jack 'Sparrow' and Nick who both had great games. Royston were the usual mix of youthful speed and old heads so our defence was tested on many occasions. The forwards had a busy day but we had good line out ball (Jack could be seen in Sawston when he was lifted) and the scrum were a mixture of strength and patience as the mid game coaching sessions weren't always taken well. Their backs only had one move with their little mini rhino switching back inside. We did however kept tackling him so they had to expand to take advantage of all the possesion. They scored two or three tries in the first half but we kept our heads up waiting for the famous 5th team second half surge to kick in and kick in it did.

The second half was different in that we held onto to the ball for longer and made foragés into their territory. Will McGarry was excellent in his new position as centre as was our half backs who combined well. Lee B makes a rare appearance on the report as he had a good game making a tackle here and there and 'running with the ball' .Mano tackled all day as usual and ran with the ball well. Hopefully we'll have more than 14 next week as it's the cup game against a Cantabs team. See you all there.
