A good bye and a thank you to John Foster from the U11s As many of you will know, John Foster has decided that it is time for him to step down as the Under 11 Shelford Head Coach, after many years of effort running the team. On behalf of the players, parents and other coaches heartfelt thanks are due to John for all the hard work, both on and off the pitch, that he has contributed to our team. John has taken the team from tag rugby when many of the boys couldn’t quite remember which direction to run in and passing the ball was definitely optional, right through to some very strong performances this year against Huntingdon, Welwyn and Sudbury. John’s coaching has been defined by his strong belief that the boys should first and foremost enjoy themselves and in this he has succeeded as is obvious from the fact that we still have 30 plus boys turning up every Sunday to play rugby!! John’s other strong belief is in the value of playing mixed ability rugby right through to this age and again this has clearly been a huge success, not just because we have kept so many boys engaged whilst other clubs at this age struggle to field teams, but also in the quality of play from some boys who may not have looked to be such strong players a few short years ago. All in all John leaves a really strong legacy for which we are a grateful. John – enjoy your newfound Sunday morning freedom and do come and see the boys play sometime! A big thank you too for Mikael who has volunteered to fill / take on John’s role working with the rest of the coaching team. |
