Meanwhile, the 4th team will be off to Barcelona...

For the first time in the team’s illustrious history, Shelford 4ths will be playing a league match on foreign soil. After a successful campaign last season, the 4ths now play in the Greene King Premier League which includes El Poblenou Enginyers – a predominantly student based club based in Barcelona.

Currently in 2nd place with a game in hand over leaders Harlow, Shelford will be looking to claim the win in the match which kicks off at 6pm, local time on Saturday evening. “Obviously, the lads are very excited to be travelling abroad for a league game, and the response from the team in terms of numbers has been really good” said captain George Pettit. “I understand from talking to players from other clubs who have been in the past, that the hospitality shown by the Enginyers is second to none. But we are taking it seriously, will set out to win the game and then enjoy ourselves afterwards. The 6pm KO is a bit of a challenge in terms of keeping everyone off the beers until after the game. I hope that the team will spend the day sightseeing, maybe going to see Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia or checking out a couple of galleries”.

Shelford Fixtures Secretary – Mike Whibley will be accompanying the team as Chef de Mission. Poblenou Enginyers will be coming to Shelford on 18th February 2012 for the return fixture.
