A win is a win and that is what we wanted from our first league encounter. The fact that we started with the elements in our favour and the opposition a man down was good, the fact that we went 12 – 0 down was not. We started as a shambles, first up tackles missed and generally disorganised Thankfully, as the first half wore on we started to gain control of the game and put a few phases together with tries from Chalky and Gids and a penalty from James Wortington meant we went in at half time 15 – 12 up. Then we started to play. Our defence shored up, the game plan still out of the window unfortunately, but we started attacking from all areas. Luis Lamas came on at half time and with his first touch split the opposition defence and then ran round the full back and then the wing to score. Further tries were scored by Richie Cottam, Alex Greenberg and then when they had a three man overlap around our 22 they passed to Charlie Worthingtom who with a typical mazy run ran the length avoiding tacklers to score. The pleasing aspects of the game were that we won and also that we showed we can score from anywhere. However, against better sides we would have come unstuck. We need to start better, get our defence better organised and get the game plan in action which we can address in training but at the end of the day we won. Man of the match, as awarded by Jim Mcgivern was Alex ‘Hansen M’Bop’ Greenberg. |
