Squad members Connor Denton, Alex Long, Nathan Taylor and Lewis Cracknell made their senior debuts for the club alongside Lachlan Finlayson who made his the previous weekend for the development squad. They played in a winning side for the 4th XV in a Greene King cup game against Datchworth 3rd XV, 38-31.
A good number of the 17's squad (9 out of a Colts squad of 22) were then instrumental in helping the Colts secure a semi-final berth in the EC Cup. They were Sam Porter, Harri Beasley, Bob Thomas-Mathieson, Cormac Starling, Lewis Green, Lewis Cracknell, Lachlan Finlayson, Connor Denton and Calum Miller. They beat Wymondham away 17-10 to set up a semi-final trip to Colchester, with Harri Beasley getting one of Shelford's three tries. On Monday evening we then have Sam Porter, Nathan Taylor, Lewis Green, Calum Miller and James Clare pushing for selection in the Eastern Counties under 17's Squad for next weekend's fixture away against Hampshire. The final trial takes place at Stowmarket, so good luck boys! To round off the weekend showing the squad's dedication, we had to train early this morning due to a lack of pitch space. The squad (minus the 9 that were at Wymondham) trained from 8.30-10.00am and we were pleasantly surprised to find 12 squad members arrive on time and raring to go. This is no mean feat for 17 year old boys to do (with a little help from their dedicated parents too), with Jack McDaid even biking from Cambridge to get there on time! Well done boys, a very impressive weekend's work! |
