Shelford 14 Barking 62 As the sun baked the pitch at the Davey Field, Barking produced another powerful team performance to beat a spirited Shelford outfit, running in 10 tries in the process. Barking dictated much of the early encounters, with their forwards running powerfully at the heart of the Shelford defence. Moving the ball quickly from the point of attack, allowed them to continually create overlaps for their pacey back three, who enjoyed plenty of ball throughout the course of the match. Second row, Tom Burns scored Barking's first try of the afternoon from a driven line out, which was converted by Craig Ratford. Shelford struggled to contain Barking's driven lineout all afternoon. Barking flyer David Vincent was next to strike after a clearance kick was charged down in the Shelford 22 and Ratford added the extras. Another well-executed driven line out produced a try for number 8 James Kellard and fullback Chris Jones crossed for the bonus point try after only 20 minutes of rugby had been played. As Barking launched another promising attack, Shelford left wing Dom Jones claimed a vital interception, when it looked as though Barking were going to score their 5th, running 60 meters for Shelford's first points of the afternoon. Shelford marksman Gough converted the score. This proved to be only brief respite for Shelford, as Barking continued to put together more punishing attacks. Both Chris Jones and Dave Vincent crossed for their second tries before the interval into which they took a 38 - 7 point lead. The theme of the match continued in the second half, as Barking's forwards continued to create a strong platform from which their backs put together a series of training ground moves. Frtom a 5 meter line out, the referee awarded Barking a penalty try, as a Shelford infringement prevented a certain push over try for Barking. Chris Jones finished off a clear overlap for his third of the game before Shelford number 8 George Perry reduced the arrears for the hosts. Kellard and Ambrose conspired brought the Barking try tally to 10 for the afternoon and completed a glittering season for the London 2 South Champions.
