Shelford Ladies v Mosley Ladies
7 - 53

Shelford Ladies knew there was always a mountain to climb with a starting line up of 12, but Shelford Ladies showed a Herculean effort in defence and the set piece. With stand out tackling for the full back and open side flanker, who alone clocked up over 15 tackles. But Shelford ladies were determined to step up their game to ensure that Mosley had to fight for a win, and the ladies did not disappoint the spectators with a super show of what they really can do. Unfortunately the lack of numbers giving Mosley the overlap let them down.

The basics were executed very well, even with so many people playing out of position. This was proved with a push over try, scored by Jen Worth, who had moved from Fly Half to fill the number Eight slot. She was put in the right area by a fantastic scrum and long drive by the front five.

At the start of the second half Mosley recognised that they did have a three man over lap and started to make the numbers tell. Shelford still made every effort to make it hard for them by ensuring any score was around the outside. This reduced the over a deficit due to the missed conversions.

With 20 minutes go in the second half Lynne Pilbeam (Full back) cut a fantastic line from full back and the ball was then off loaded through at least five sets of hands covering half the pitch. This moved ended when Mosley gave away a penalty and Shelford kicked to touch inside the oppositions 22.

Mosley were a full strength, well drilled side who ended the game by using their numbers to great advantage they will go home knowing they had to play hard to win this league fixture. Every try they got had to be run out wide around the Shelford team. With great defending and play the Shelford Ladies should be proud of their performance and the score does not reflect the standard of play from both teams.
