An under strength Shelford XV were unable to match the organisation, physicality and skill levels of their visitors, as Henley coasted to a comfortable victory at the Davey Field, running in 9 tries in the process. Henley set the tone for the match in the early stages by winning many of the early exchanges and Steve Green was on hand to take an offload from the ever-present Matt Payne for Henley's first score, exploiting poor Shelford defending at the breakdown. Will Fulton started an accomplished kicking display by adding the extras. Henley appeared to create overlaps at will all afternoon and Tommy Haynes was on hand to run in the first clear overlap of the afternoon, which Fulton converted. Shelford continued their defensive naivety by allowing Henley scrum half, Jack Shaylor, to sneak down the side of a ruck for Henley's third converted try of the first half. Henley secured their attacking bonus point when Tom Stradwick strode in at the right corner after the visitors had created another clear overlap. Shelford marksman Ed Gough interspersed two penalty kicks with Henley's tries for what turned out to be Shelford's only scores of the game. Henley took a 26 - 6 lead into the interval. Henley were unerringly ruthless in the second half, as they ran in a further 5 tries to compound Shelford misery. The pick of the tries started deep in Henley's 22, as they turned over possession after Shelford mounted one of very few attacks on the Henley line. Fulton distributed the ball quickly to Danny Wells, who ran 60 meters, beating 2 would-be Shelford tacklers before offloading to Tommy Haynes for a regulation run in. Wells scored a brace of tries himself and was ably supported by his centre partner, Ali James, who also crossed the Shelford whitewash. Man of the match Matt Payne completed the rout as Henley inflicted another punishing defeat on a depleted Shelford side.
