ImageShelford 3 - 42 Rosslyn Park

Rosslyn Park played with enterprise and precision and ran in six well-worked tries to maintain their push for promotion and humble new boys Shelford at the Davey Field. Park set the tone for the match in the early stages and combined strong forward play with slick interplay in the backs to send left winger Paul Unseld in at the left corner. The same route of attack paid dividends 5 minutes later, this time Park fullback and ex-Shelford player Richard Davies was the beneficiary. Park were soon attacking again and Ross Laidlaw slotted a penalty kick from infront of the sticks following an infringement from the Shelford forwards.

Park's approach remained uncompromising and they continued to starve Shelford of possession and opportunity. Turnover ball was moved quickly into the hands of right winger, James Strong and he created a two-on-one situation for his side, which Richard Davies exploited to send outside centre Marc Sweeney in at the right corner for a converted try. Shelford's solitary score of the first half came via a penalty from the boot of Shelford marksman, Ed Gough.

Shelford trailed 3 points to 23 at the interval. Park reinforced their stranglehold on this fixture early in the second half when outside half, Ross Laidlaw capitalised on poor defensive organisation from the home side to run in unchallenged from 40 meters, converting his own score. Park's fifth try came from man-of-the-match James Strong, who found space on the right and put his foot on the accelerator to run in unopposed after good work from the visitor's inside backs. Howard Quigley completed Park's impressive team performance by rounding off another fine move and Davies added the conversion to have the final say at his former home.
