Barnes 10 Shelford 18 SHELFORD’S convincing first-half display proved enough to consolidate their position in mid-table. After an early infringement from the Barnes forwards, Tom Dann stepped up to kick the first points of the game. The fly-half was instrumental in Shelford’s first try, chipping over the on-rushing Barnes defence for Dom Jones to score. Barnes got a foothold in the game until Aki Lea burst through the midfield and rampaged 40m before off-loading for George Perry to touch down. Dann converted to give Shelford a 15-0 half-time lead. After the break, Barnes produced some better rugby and had the visitors on the back foot, and Shelford were adjudged to be offside in midfield, allowing Warren Gower the chance to register three points for the hosts. Home flyer Anthony Wilde found space down the right flank and outstripped the Shelford defence to score beneath the posts, and Gower converted. But Dann sealed Shelford’s victory with a penalty from 40m.
