Stoneygate v Shelford Ladies
29-5

Shelford ladies seemed to go into today’s game facing an upward struggle with another 'thrown together' team. The ladies surprised all and the game proved to be anything but. Although the score weighed heavily in favour of Stoneygate, the girls gave a 'one for all' performance and never backed down at any point. This showed the team spirit the ladies have and their true grit and determination to play.

Even with a solid and powerful Stoneygate scrum making life difficult, and disrupting the Shelford ladies scrum, with new players within, the forwards dug in, pulled together, and played as a defiant unit. Strong running from debutant Capathia Rey, in her first game of rugby ever, proved her to be a promising talent. Ingrid in the back row punched well above her weight and was all over the park, keeping the Stoneygate back line on their toes.

The backs also showed the same spirit with the ball in hand. Kalinda Brown’s straight running gave the ladies the go forward they needed when not going forward in the scrum.

Scrum half Charlie Falkingham was again breaking the Stoneygate 9-10 link, and causing some disruption, which the Stoneygate ladies found hard. While outside centre Kath proved to be a slippery customer and Janice Dunlevy strong defence on the wing all brought extra punch to the game.

Not taking anything away from Stoneygate, strong and straight running, and great attacking lines brought them the tries they deserved.

It was looking like another no score defeat was on the cards for Shelford but quick tap penalties and open rugby got the Shelford Ladies a try in the corner scored by outstanding captain Jen Worth. A much deserved try and the final word in a hard fought game. Plenty of tackle training on Wednesday!

The Shelford ladies remained disciplined though out the game despite Stoneygate’s desperate efforts with continuous snide comments and back chatting to both players and the referee. Shelford ladies can hold their heads up despite the score.
