Shelford 19 - 15 Ealing Foul play and indiscipline damaged Ealing's promotion chances, as Shelford capitalised on their numerical advantage to beat Ealing at the Davey Field. Shelford started strongly and put together several powerful drives through the heart of the Ealing defence. An early infringement provided Shelford marksman, Tom Dann with a penalty opportunity which he converted. Shelford repeated these same patterns of play and another infringement from the Ealing forwards allowed Dann to extend the home side's lead.
Ealing then put together several promising attacking plays and were soon pounding away at the Shelford line, but were unable to convert pressure into points as the Shelford defence remained strong. Shelford were soon attacking again and Shelford number 8, Aki Lea, bulldozed his way through the Ealing midfield only for Ealing to infringe once more. The metronomic Dann extended Shelford's lead to 9 points. Under pressure, Ealing loosehead prop Dinos Alexopolus saw red for foul play at the breakdown. However, with a numerical disadvantage, Ealing managed to put together several purposeful attacks before the end of the half, none of which yielded points and the score remained 9 - 0 at the interval. Ealing started the second half like a top-of-the-table side and a superbly weighted cross-field kick by Ealing outside half, Ben Ward, found acres of space on the right flank and was gathered at pace by right winger Owen Bruynseels who darted in at the corner for Ealing's first points of the game. Shelford's response was positive and swift and a midfield scrum provided Aki Lea with an ideal launch pad to rampage upfield before offloading to Alex Birkby to score. With the tide in their favour, Shelford put together an impressive attack down the right flank and, after the ball had passed through numerous pair of Shelford hands, Sam Hoad was in support to score in the right corner. With their chance of promotion under threat, Ealing responded with a brace of tries by replacement wing Phil Chesters, however it proved to be too little too late as Shelford claimed victory and in the process, damaged Ealing's chances of automatic promotion.
