This fixture was a true game of two halves, with Shelford dominating the proceedings in the first half and Dings being the more effective outfit in the second.
After Shelford's Gough and Ding's Tovey traded early penalties, Shelford put together a series of powerful attacks down the left flank. An attacking line out resulted in the Shelford forwards shunting the opposing pack 20 meters back towards their own try line for Aki Lea to score. Gough added the extras. Shelford were soon attacking the Dings line again and, after a number of try scoring attempts, Tom Dann was on hand to dart over the whitewash for Shelford's second. The score remained 15 - 3 until the interval.
With the tide in their favour, the home support at the Davey Field expected Shelford to put their visitors to the sword. However, Dings produced their best rugby of the match and were soon back in the fixture. Gavin Curry scored Ding's first try after the visitors created an overlap on the left, which Jack Tovey converted. With the Shelford defence stretched, Stean Williams cut a fine angle to grab their second with Tovey adding the extras to put Dings into the lead for the first time in the fixture. However Gough had the last laugh adding two penalties at the death to give Shelford the spoils.
