Shelford Development Squad 29 - 0 Westcombe Park A sure sign of the standards which the squad has set itself this season is the disappointment felt with a 29-0 win which catapulted us to 4th in the league. With games in hand on second and third place, second in the league and a third promotion in three seasons is a real possibility. The expectation for Saturday was high and the squad willing to play the kind of rugby that had been so effective against Chinnor. Starting brightly with a try from Tim Mann after quick ball and Tim typically shrugging off some weak challenges, we looked to be on track. Progress proved to be harder to make as some solid Westcombe Park defence and too many occasions where we tried to do it all as individuals allowed a number of potential try scoring opportunities to slip by. Our defence held solid despite some pressure and at the break it was 7-0. The second half was a frustrating stop start affair for both sides. Shelford managed to get on the scoreboard early on with Adam Hodgkisson finishing off a sweeping move started by Chris Yeomans involving a number of pairs of hands. The forwards were proving very effective particularly in the driving maul and one from a lineout saw Matt Gregerson stumble over for the score. A John Naylor Penalty and another score which started in our own 22 and found its way to Charlie Baker to outpace the cover defence for the try completed the scoring. A good result in the end and we travel to Worthing on Saturday looking for another win and improved performance to continue our push for promotion. |
