ImageShelford 19 - 21 Clifton Three defensive errors proved costly for Shelford , resulted in them conceding three soft tries and subjected them to their first home loss of the season, as they entertained Clifton at the Davey Field.

Shelford started the game brightly and a deft chip over the onrushing Clifton defence allowed Shelford left winger, Dom Jones, to gather the ball at pace and race to the line for the first try of the game, which Gough converted. More pressure from the home side resulted in a regulation penalty for Shelford marksman Gough.

Shelford's first dose of defensive naivety came at an attacking Clifton line out where, instead of moving a forward into the backline to cover for the injured Chiwanga, they presented Clifton with a straightforward  overlap, which they duly exploited from first phase possession to cross in the left corner. By this stage, Clifton were gaining a foothold in the game and continued to apply more pressure before Shelford strayed offside in midfield. A penalty infront of the posts was converted to converge the scores. However, Gough had the final say of the half with his second penalty. Shelford 13 – Clifton 8.

Shelford were slow off the mark in the second half and a missed midfield tackle, enabled the visitors to cross for their second try of the match. Shelford began to play a wider game and a promising attack was illegally halted by the visiting backline. Gough steeped up once more to add three points. With the tide in their favour, Shelford put together several powerful drives before Gough dropped back into the pocket and slotted a drop goal to bring daylight between the two sides. However, a Shelford infringement infront of the posts allowed the visitors back into the game. Clifon outside half Barnes adding the extras. And with one of the final plays of the game, another missed tackle in the Shelford midfield allowed the Clifton right winger to cross for his second try of the game and sealed a win for the Bristolians.
