Shelford Development Squad 103 – 0 Portsmouth Portsmouth travelled to Shelford with the bare minimum 15 players and suffered an injury prior to the game leaving them with 14 players. There scratch squad then offered to forfeit the game to Shelford and play with 15 if we lent them a player, which we chose to do. Shelfrod scored in the very first minutes with strong running from the forwards setting up a ruck giving the backs quick ball and slick hands saw Callum Russell score in the corner. Shelford piled on the points with Chalkie and Clem running strongly from the kick offs. The outstanding performance of the game came from Alex Greenberg who was consistently on hand to support any breaks and finish off scores. His excellent support play led to a grand total of 5 tries. The team continued to run strongly and off load effectively to keep the ball moving and nearly all of the back line got in on the action with Warwick Anderson grabbing two, Chris Yeomans one, Matt Tinsley one and Callum Russell adding a second to his tally. The only other forward to get on the score sheet was Clem finishing off a well worked move. A number of players came off the bench in the second half and added fresh legs to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Again it was the backs who were amongst the tries with Charlie Worthington bagging three, and Mike Campbell and George Andrews a brace each. It is difficult to learn a lot from such a comprehensive victory but it was particularly pleasing that a number of the scores came from well worked moves that the team has been working on over the past few weeks in training. The Development Squad travel to Sutton and Epsom next weekend for a 3pm kick off, and will be looking forward to a competitive victory. |
