 Eastern Counties Junior Cup Final Diss 7 Shelford 36 This weekend the Development Squad travelled to Diss to defend their Eastern Counties cup.
The game started slowly and so often happens in these situations Shelford spent most of the first half seeing what Diss had to offer and although defending well did not take the ascendancy. We created many chances but could not quite finish them off and Diss as the underdog raised their game in front of their own supporters. With just minutes of the first half remaining we finally made it over the whitewash through Dave Archibald which Andy converted. Half time came with the score 7 – 0 to us and thankfully the second half was much better. It started brightly and continued in that vein as Shelford rightly dominated possession, territory and ultimately points. A penalty from Andy and then tries from Gids, Wallace and Callum with two of them converted gave Shelford the lead they deserved before Diss to their credit got a converted score of their own. The last play of the game saw Shelford score the try of the match when they broke out of their own 22 as Andy passed out wide to Chalky who drew the full back passed inside to Richie who offloaded in the tackle to Dave to score his second which Andy converted. It was not the best we have played this season but it was a win in a cup final so from that you cannot be too critical. We now have a break for a couple of weeks before we play the Cambridgeshire Cup final on the 3rd May. |
