Image Tring 8 Shelford 25

Not surprisingly the importance of this game meant that there was quite a bit of nervousness about the side and during the game as well as in the build up.

With this as a double header meant that win this and we would win the league. Having won the toss we started with slope and the wind behind us but for quarter of an hour despite possession we could not generate any points. Tring were definitely in the mood for spoiling the party but our defence was solid for the match as a whole and especially in the early exchanges. With quarter of an hour gone a quick break blind from the scrum was then picked up and driven forward again and again and then Briggsy went over which Andy converted. Not long after Callum went over in the corner after some good passing through the backs, With a penalty conceded a score at half time of 12 – 3 was not a comfortable cushion. However, we started the second half the brightest and created some good chances. The forwards were battling very well and the lineouts were solid and from one not far outside our 22 we caught and drove to our opposition 22. A good break in midfield then saw Wallace striving towards the line who offloaded to Richie to score and soon after Will went in the corner. A bit of breathing space finally had been created and although they did cross our line once our defence overall was superb and kept Tring out for the remaining ten minutes. Finally the whistle went and Shelford had won the league which is great reward for the efforts that all the players have put in over the season. Overall this is still a young side so stands us in good stead for next season and beyond. We can relax a bit now but know that in the coming weeks we have the opportunity to add some cup silverware to this which would move it up a level from a good season to an excellent season.
