ImageShelford 47 London Scottish 15

Poor preparation with respect to weeks off from cancelled matches has served us well before and as the scoreline shows did nothing to hinder our performance this weekend.

Having won the toss we opted to play down the slope with the wind behind us and naturally played most of this in our oppositions’ half. The first twenty minutes or so we did well and put some structure and patterns together to allow scores from Childers, Frenchy and Richie and all converted. However, we then switched off and let Scottish back into the game allowing a try and a penalty to be conceded leaving the half time score 21 – 8. It was important that we concentrated on the basics for the second half playing up the slope and into the wind and this probably was the best period of the match for us. Our support play was superb and when breaks were made players were on hand to take the ball on further. Any loose ball was generally won by the scavengers of Rory, M’bop and Frenchy and strong runs from the likes of Clem meant that we played a lot of the game again in our oppositions’ half. In all we scored four second half tries from M’bop, Clem and two from Andy with Andy kicking three more conversions but allowed a consolation try to be conceded leaving the final score 47 – 15. All in all a very solid performance and also entertaining for the supporters and hopefully we can take this into our next game on Saturday against the league leaders Haywards Heath.
