Colts / Under 17’s

Shelford Combined Under 17’s/Colts 36 Medway Combined Under 17’s/Colts 0

Shelford controlled the majority of territory and possession which was reflected in the score. With the coming together of two different squads you would expect a lack of understanding and continuity in the play, but this was generally not the case with the squads meshing nicely at times. George Perry opened the scoring, finishing off a powerful drive upfield and was quickly followed over in similar fashion by Toby Mepham. Alex Boyce added the conversion. The game was won just before half time with Shelford scoring two fleet footed tries out wide through David Cassettari and Max Johnson, Boyce added one conversion expertly from out wide. With half time, Shelford rang a few changes, which disjointed the team temporarily, which was further hindered by the sin binning of Harry Robbins, however when Shelford were restored to full numbers they closed the game out, scoring two late tries through Ben Baxter and Robbins with Tommy McGimpy adding the conversion.

Colts/Under 17's

Shelford 41 Royston 0

The other half of the combined U17 / Colts took on Royston this Sunday and gave a good display of running rugby with Josh Sutton, Charlie Baker and Michael Houghton all running in tries in the first half, 2 of which Tom Ward converted. More of the same followed in the second half with Tarren Runham scoring 1 and Jon Caller getting a hatrick, Ward converting.

Under 15’s

Shelford 14 Woodford 22

The visitors took the early advantage with their backs passing fluently to score the first try after three minutes. The Shelford team looked very sluggish and conceded a second try after ten minutes. Slowly the Shelford pack began to exert pressure. The ball was being won by Fergus Snell at scrum half and the Shelford backs came into the game with some slick passing leading to a number of strong runs by Ben Kelk. Mistakes were being made by the away side and Shelford found themselves close to the Woodford line as a result of some excellent kicking for touch by Lewis Cooper. When Shelford were awarded a penalty ten metres out from the try line, Luke Whale was passed the ball and made a terrific lunge for the line through a mass of Woodford bodies to score. Elliot Mepham successfully converted. The home side continued to dominate pushing Woodford on to the defensive. When Shelford were awarded a further penalty close to the try line all the Woodford eyes were on Luke Whale. However it was Lewis Cooper who scored the second try with a similar drive for the line. Again Mepham added the conversion. At half time with the score 14-10 the away team looked despondent with the home side with the advantage. However due to some minor injuries changes had to be made resulting in a loss of rhythm for the home side. It seemed inevitable that Shelford would concede a try which they duly did ten minutes after the break. Woodford were able to add a fourth try shortly afterwards which was converted. Towards the end of the game Shelford looked more threatening but without any real penetration.
