The first half saw Cambridge score two converted tries and a penalty, although better defence down the blind side should have prevented their second try. Shelford saw plenty of possession and territory and although we did not cross the whitewash, we consistently took points away from our forays into the Cambridge half through the boot of fly half Tom Dann. 5 penalties in total saw the teams go into the break at 17 - 15. Despite half time injuries in the Shelford camp, the second half was another finely balanced affair. Perhaps the difference between the sides was Cambridge's ability to run the ball from deep to good affect, capitalising on Shelford's disorganised defence in broken field situations. Cambridge were able to score three tries to Shelford's two in this half and edged home by one score to progress to the next round of the cup. Skips |
