ImageOn a gusting November afternoon, the Shelford collective produced the performance that we have been waiting for all season. Shelford 52 - 3 Bishop Stortford

Team: 1 Kenny Barrett, 2 Kramer Ronaki, 3 Teddy Saunders, 4 Nick Sutcliffe, 5 Dave Macauley, 6 Ed Mills, 7 Sam Tovo, 8 Aki Lea, 9 Alex Birkby (C), 10 Tom Dann, 11 Scott Jackowski, 12 Richard Davies, 13 Dom Jones, 14 Charlie Worthington, 15 Chris Glynn.

Scorers:
T: Birkby (4), Jones, Lea, Jackowski
C: Dann (4)
P: Dann (3)

It included a clinical second half display which strangled the life out of our Bishop Stortford opposition. Tactical kicking was always going to be key and in Tom Dann and Chris Glynn, Shelford has two of the best executioners in the division. The Bishop Stortford corner flag was peppered all afternoon and time after time the Stortford pack had to march back deep into their 22 to defend their try line. When combined with an impressive Shelford defence that included the ever-present bone crunching South Sea Island trio of Lea, Tovo and Ronaki, Stortford never really managed to get out of their own half. This must have been demoralising for our hosts.

Shelford were able to capitalise on this territorial advantage to put together a series of attacks, which resulted in 7 well-worked tries in our favour and none for the opposition!!! The pick of the tries was Dom Jones' final try that saw him chip over his opposite number and bolt down the wing to finish the game in fine style. Scott Jackowski's try is also worth a mention, as it involved a slick pass from Richard Davies, which found Scotty hitting the line at pace and thundering through the Stortford defence to begin the try count for the day.

We are starting to play like the side that we know we can be. We have strength throughout the side in both defence and attack. We have defenders who the opposition will go out of their way to avoid - the Shelford chiropractors! We also have backs (including Scotty!) who can finish from anywhere on the field. There has been a tangible mood swing in the camp over the last few weeks and what we need to do now is build on recent performances and add to the momentum that has started. We are in 4th position in the division now and we must be professional, continue to improve and focus on being in the promotion spots at the end of season. One game at a time - the Shelford machine is starting to move.
