Shelford's first home match of the season immediately put the team under pressure. The opposition, Olney, were joint top of the table with Shelford and the game was set to be a real test of the goals Shelford set for themselves this season.
Shelford received the kick to start, but a knock on immediately tested the two packs. Much of the first half action took place in the centre of the pitch with both teams showing a strong defence. Olney, however, got the first points on the board after being held up a number of times. Continued pressure from Shelford, resulted in a break for winger Naomi Linklater, who worked with Jen Worth to make it over the line. Unfortunately, Olney powered back and started to hurt Shelford with more tries. Whilst defence was strong, Olneys superior strength really started to show in the second half, as it gave them the edge between the two well matched teams. Both teams played some brilliant rugby but it was Olney's day with the score finishing 36-12. Forward of the Match: Sarah Roper
Back of the Match: Jen Worth |
