Colts

Shelford 8 - 3 Westcliffe

Shelford applied all the early pressure against a big Westcliffe team. With little to show for their efforts, after being encamped in the Westcliffe 22 for ten minutes they opted for a shot at the posts, which missed. Once again, encamped in the Westcliffe 22 they gave away another penalty which was again missed. Just before the break Shelford drove for the line 10 meters out, and up against Westcliffe’s big forwards, they struggled until they offloaded it to the backs who did just enough to enable Charlie Baker to cross over. Despite the conversion being missed, it was a much needed score just before the break. At the start of the second half it was Westcliffe who put the pressure on and Shelford giving away the penalty away which they converted. Some slick play from the backs got Shelford back into the Westcliffe half and were awarded a penalty which was converted to cancel out the Westcliffe score. Once again Shelford applied the pressure and missed several opportunities to finish off the game, notably when Matt Caller burst though the Westcliffe defence and heading for the line, decided the long way round was better and was caught short of the line. With a lot at stake,  and the pressure on near the end of the game one or two unsavoury incidents started to occur, which led to Shelford losing a man to the side lines with a straight red card for the last 10 minutes of the game. Luckily this did not cost Shelford dear and they kept up the pressure to see the game out.

Under 13’s

Shelford 31 West Norfolk 14

Shelford U13’s produced a great team effort to overcome a very strong West Norfolk side. Shelford opened the scoring after they turned over possession with James Gibson beating three players as he went all the way from his own 22 to score. West Norfolk drew level at 7-7 before George Knowles outpaced the defence to score down the right wing. With their tight forwards game the home side drew level on the stoke of half time. Shelford stretched away in the second half as they tightened up the defence around the rucks and some intelligent kicking by Kit Goodfellow led to tries from Robin Harvey and Goodfellow himself. Prop Callum Miller added a final try to seal a great win. Goodfellow kicked 3 conversions to make it 31-14 to Shelford.
