Within the first ten minutes of their away fixture against Worthing, Shelford had given themselves a mountain to climb, as they allowed their hosts to score three early tries, all of which were converted. With the margin of victory at the end of the game standing at 24 points, this proved to be the decisive period of the match.
Worthing began their strong start by smuggling possession away from Shelford and moving the ball wide to flanker Jamie Redmayne who ran in unopposed for their Worthing's first try, converted by full back Matt Mclean. Their second try involved a little fortune however, after a speculative kick from Mclean came to rest in the Shelford scoring zone and outside centre Greg Sullivan was on hand to touch down, with Mclean adding the extras. After a series of powerful assaults on the Shelford line, rampaging number 8, Samisi Tuilava crashed over for his first try of the game after poor defending from Shelford on the blind side. Mclean knocked the conversion over to extend Worthing's lead to 21 points and bring to an end a torrid opening period for the visitors. |

Shelford Development Squad v Henley 2nd XV (A) 10:30am meet at the club or 1pm at Henley 2pm Kick Off
Directions: http://www.henleyrugbyclub.org.uk/HowToFindUs.aspx Postcode: Marlow Road – RG9 2JA After a cracking 13-12 win against the Royal Engineers in a bruising encouter at Davey field the team are looking forward to another league game with great relish. Wednesday night was a tough fixture which was thoroughly enjoyed by the squad and those who braved the conditions to watch. Despite the conditions the Development squad played some good rugby and were tested to their limits by a strong Sappers team that boasted a couple of players who have represnted the Army. We hope to play the fixture again next season and look forward to welcoming the Waterbeach based team back next year. |
